Impaired Cerebral Blood Flow Disorders CEREBRAL BLOOD FLOW Impaired cerebral blood flow disorders are extremely common and factors such as the lesion site, existing collateral’s, and the amount of tissue affected determines the actual neurological deficit that results. The impaired blood flow may have a number of causes. Things such as alterations in blood pressure, changes in the arterial walls, and occlusions of the arterial lumen are some of the more important causes. The brain is supplied with blood by two internal carotid arteries and two vertebral arteries. These arteries form the anastomosis known as the Circle of Willis. In 1951, two researchers, McDonald and Potter demonstrated that, "the blood supply to half of the brain is provided by the internal carotid and vertebral artery of that side, and that their respective streams come together in the posterior communicating artery at a point where the pressure of the two is equal and they do not mix." (Snell, p514). This is important to keep in mind when considering just how significant the collateral circulation truly is. "If, however, the internal carotid or vertebral artery is occluded, the blood passes forward or backward across that point to compensate for the reduction in blood flow. The circulus arteriosus also permits the blood to flow across the midline, as shown when the internal carotid or vertebral artery on one side is occluded." This provides some relief for occlusions in the major vascular supply. Another important finding, was that the blood that flows from the two vertebral arteries remain on the same side of the lumen and does not mix while passing through the basilar artery. Consumer society is one that creates desire and encouragement for greater amount of goods, services and peoples identification with brands. A throwaway society is one that constantly creates waste for desire for new products. Nowadays, people self define in other ways leaning towards personal likes or dislikes such as music tastes, cars we drive or latest fashion accessories allowing people to feel a sense of belonging to particular groups in society As opposed to an Industrial society where people were defined by class structure and their profession. This shift in culture offers us insight into how and why our relationship and values with material goods from buying to disposal helped form a consumer society and explore the claim Is a consumer society always a ‘throw away’ society? To enable an informed evaluation I will introduce the following factors mass consumption in U. K. contemporary society, supermarkets positive sum power and Bauman’s theory of ‘The Seduced and the Repressed’ Generally when we think of consumerism our immediate thoughts are what goods or services we have bought images of bags brimming with promotional food offers, new clothes and shoes or maybe treated oneself to a new kitchen as the last one looked ‘dated’. Rarely does our natural cognitive ability allow us to start at the end of this process to consider the waste and disposal that is created from such mass consumption. Waste is a function of who we are. ‘Evidence in the social sciences’, 2009, track 2) It is part of everyday life in that we all create a certain amount from daily essentials such as food its packaging, leaving the heating on or replacing household items. Notwithstanding the importance of eating, clothing ourselves and live in an environment conducive to health. One of the reasons for this change in attitude to shopping something that was considered mundane and necessary is the rise in affluence over the past 50 years. The rise in affluence has come about due to more women in the workplace so ouseholds now have a dual income therefore more of a disposable income and the 40% rise over 17 years in employee’s earnings allowing people to have more money than ever before. (Brown, 2009, p. 110) Although difficult to measure the exact escalation in wealth we can see from total domestic outgoings that people now spend less on essential provisions and more on treats or what is referred to as ‘luxuries and necessities’ In 1957, 33% of income was spent on food yet in 2007 this reduced by 18%. In contrast to a 16% rise over the same period for ‘services’ showing peoples values and habits have changed with the prospect of having more money to spend on items that are not needed but wanted. With more women in the workforce this places constraints on time to complete domestic chores or raise a family. Cheap kitchen appliances allow woman to enter the workforce this then generates greater affluence and income to support the purchase of yet more labour saving devices. Another best use of this valuable time is people visiting the supermarket. For some, supermarkets offer freedom of choice for others it limits choice only selling what it wants to sell. Supermarkets lure us in with offers that cannot be beaten ‘buy one get one free’ or spend over ? 50. 00 and receive ? 5. 00 of your fuel. When you put it like that why wouldn’t you want to be part of it? They sell an abundance of items from food, clothing to the latest must have gadget, credit cards and insurance most of which is cheaper here than if you were to visit independent stores buying items separately and of course you don’t have the time to do this. Supermarkets claim to work on a positive sum power ethos. This ethos argues that all benefit from this action – workers and farmers get a living wage and sell all their stock, consumers make purchase at cheap and affordable prices and supermarkets make profit. What is the alternative? The lowly paid worker does not earn a wage so is financially worse of? Or the farmer is left with surplus perishable stock that he cannot shift? Meaning fewer customers as people take their money elsewhere. Therefore from a supermarkets viewpoint they are doing everyone a favour. So the consumer gets home unpacks the bags of food realising then that actually don’t having anything for dinner or the time cook a real meal. Instead puts on newly purchased cheap outfit and new shoes throwing out the ones bought only a few weeks ago along with food wasted from last weeks shop and goes out for dinner with friends without a care in the world other than being complimented and showing of new outfit to friends. Not even considering the waste created from one day helps accumulate approx 6. million tonnes of food wasted a year amounting to over ? 400 squandered per household annually . The current attitude is ‘I can replace goods cheaply and easily the important thing is that I fit in’. (The Food We Waste (WRAP) cited in Brown, 2009, p. 106) Within Bauman’s theory society is divided into two categories â€Å"The seduced and the repressed†. Depending on factors such as employment, education, wealth, age, gender, individuals belong in one o r the other. This is a contentious view and deliberately so as it evokes emotion and dialogue. Although it is not exactly accurate as some people choose where to shop maybe to support local businesses, not own a car for environmental reasons others are content with what they have and have no desire to conform. (Hetherington, 2009, p. 25) Given the title one would not wish to fall into the ‘repressed’ the majority of people will desire to be in the ‘seduced’ camp as here anything is possible if you have the means. Being here gives access to the ‘in crowd’ or ‘keeping up with the Jones’ even if that means buying beyond your means. An example of this could be a child whose parents are unemployed, on benefits resulting in him not having the latest fashion trend or cool trainers might be in the ‘repressed’ category. Society forces pressure on the parents who succumb to the need of acceptance within a ‘seduced’ society reinforcing Bauman’s theory. I agree with this claim about a consumer society but not the word ‘always’ as it is a generalisation. The words ‘mostly’ or ‘sometimes’ are better suited as there are individuals and sections of society who consume conscientiously, aware of limited sustainability of natural resources. There are those who value recycling and others who acknowledge that happiness is not a direct link of material gain. The recession along with education are driving forces on people’s attitudes towards consumerism and waste firstly the disposable income to spend is no longer available meaning people are having to make do with what they have and rethinking their current attitude. Secondly schools have to include projects as part of their curriculum exposing current and future generations to the existing issues and long term benefits of such a valuable process.

The younger generation can not stay away from politics just because politics are corrupt and they should be mature enough to understand things and to serve the people. There are many issues we need to concentrate and it is the responsibility of younger generation to take the challenge and to act in a matured way rather resorting to extremism or pessimism. I would like to express my views on few challenging issues in this country : Youth into Politics: Many people criticize politicians so easily and we talk about political corruption very frequently rather thinking towards the solution. I do believe that great people in this country did think about the ways to reform our politics. We have brought some reforms to Peoples Representative Act, we are discussing about the tendency of buying votes, not allowing people with criminal background in contesting elections and also about State funding. I have heard a discussion on public funding of political parties, but, I know that it is very difficult to deal with this issue too and even drafting a regulation providing public funding will not be any easy issue and it will lead to so many other complications. Great people have concluded that the public funding will not solve the problem of election expenditure. Many also opine that spending lot of money in elections and buying votes may not guarantee success, however, not spending money in elections can guarantee defeat. This is a fact. As such, I we need not think too much about this issues and Election Commission is there to enforce its regulations and it will be doing its job. Media: Media is no more independent now and the people are not in a position to rely on media reports unless the issues is disused clearly. Media can do so many things really and it can reform this society. However, they are very busy with their issues and keeping their TRP ratings intact. They say that they need not have a responsibility and they can not do charity. There is a merit in the argument of media too, but, public interest is above all. However, it is very difficult to regulate media and there should be awareness among the people that what media says need not be correct. The issue is very important and we need to find ways as to how to prevent the media in damaging society and as to whether it is possible to regulate the media. Education Health Care: Today many software engineers and other educated employed in good companies taking good remuneration. Many of these did study in  Government  Schools  and colleges and they did struggle with poverty. Despite the poverty and other issues, they could grow and achieve positions in life now. However, now, these software engineers employed in good companies and taking good remuneration finding it difficult to get their children educated. If this is the situation for the educated and employed, then, what about people living below poverty line? Still, in this country, substantial number of people lives Below Poverty Line. I strongly believe that we can not get away with this Education and Health Care through Schemes and Privatization. State Governments have a big role to play in imparting education and in providing Health Care. Our Governments have lot of money in their hands now with industrial and overall growth, but, they spend all the money towards achieving their political agenda. If this country can not provide education to the people Below Poverty Line at free of cost, then, we may have to pay a very heavy price for that and we will also see internal revolution. It is such a sensitive issue now and we can not ignore this. Agriculture Farmers do face lot of difficulties with the middlemen. The problems of our farmers to be understood and State Governments should give utmost priority as to how to protect our Agriculture. We can not ignore our Agriculture which provides livelihood to majority of Indians even now either directly or indirectly. Our State Government Agri Departments should function efficiently addressing the problems of the farmers from time to time. We need to maintain a modest Agri growth while focusing on the Industrial Growth. We need to concentrate on both. Legal System There is a lot of talk about our legal system. How come we claim that we are developed unless our rights are duly protected with due process of law? We need not look at the role of Police, the investigation, the corruption in Police Department and other issues while we talk about legal system. Yes, we need good police men, investigators and we need to have a mechanism where the orders of the Court are implemented effectively and speedily. The role of Police and connected issues need not necessarily be merged while talk about legal reforms. Because, the police reforms are directly connected to politics and political leadership. That’s a bigger issue. We need to have a serious look at our court infrastructure, the quality of judges, the work culture, and the quality of legal professionals, the procedural issues and other connected things. We can not ignore our legal system anymore. I know that there are complications in bringing reforms in our legal system. There can be resistance from the legal professionals when the Government or the authorities push forward certain reforms. But, we need not have a clear plan as to how to go ahead and we must be able to effectively deal with the resistance too. Youth of this country should not be scared at the problems and we need to find solutions in order make our country a Super Power. There is no problem without solution and we need to find the solutions. Industrial Growth and the ‘Sustainable Development’ Environment is most important for the society and that is why even the developed countries talk so much about protection of environment. This is a welcome change and Right to Information Act forces the public servants now to be transparent and to maintain the records properly, as otherwise, they will be fixed one day. Answer: Introduction As a project manager of the project that dealt with developing software for traffic management, I faced an unforeseen team conflict quite lately that resulted in the delay in the project processing. Team conflict is not a new thing in todays business. Different people have different perception towards a single thing and when the idea does not match, it gives rise to conflict among the team members. If this conflict is not handled or resolved properly, it may hamper the project and compromise with the creativity of the employees involved in the conflict, which in turn can affect project or the product quality in its development stage (Rispens 2012). The description, feelings, evaluation and action plan in order to settle down the conflict among the team-members that I have faced recently as a project manager is elaborated in the following paragraphs. Description Conflict among the team members, is the result of opposition in ideas and views of team members regarding a common issue. As a project manager, I have an idea that if the perception or the environment of the team or any team member is negative, the outcome will also be negative (Burke 2013). A team conflict aroused while we were working on a software development. The conflict broke in mainly due to the poor understanding of the objectives of the project because of poor-communication among the team-members. Every member had different formulas in analyzing the objective of the project resulting in difference of opinion. These differences in views gave rise to a major conflict among the team-members. The interdependent task was greatly hampered due to this conflict and at this point, as a project manager I felt to look into the matter and resolve the problem before it is too late. Feelings I could see my project suffering and missing the deadline of the first release. I felt terrible as a project manager and considered myself responsible for the conflict and the probable loss. A project managers, responsibility is to see to it whether my team is performing up to the mark and the check the progress of the task. Therefore, even I was responsible for this conflict to some extent. A project managers responsibility is to successfully plan, initiate design and execute the project (Kerzner 2013). It also relates to successful monitoring, controlling and closure of the project. Hence, it was my responsibility to manage and control the conflict in order to curb it. Evaluation The primary task required to be done to control the conflict was to know the reason of the conflict (Doucey 2017). The cause of the conflict was that, the designing team of the software made certain changes in the design of the software without consulting the coding team members. This communication gap was the major reason of the conflict. The coding team had a different perspective towards the objective of the project and they were not ready to accept the changes made by the designing team. Even the designing team was not ready to flinch from their demand. This gave rise to huge conflict and resulted in the delay in the work. The next thing, which I had to do as a project manager, was to understand the situation, making a plan to curb the issue. I understood that the conflict could have been avoided if the detailed plan about the processes of product development is made before the initiation of the project. However, since we are following an agile methodology for project development, the changes in the course of action was expected (Rossi 2013). Changes are generally implemented in the course of action on basis of users feedback. Our software was not even ready for the first release and therefore, implementing any changes during the development process was not necessary. Designing team was adamant on implementing the change, as according to their point of view, the change was necessary to implement keeping in mind the customers requirement. Development team however had a different concern. The coding procedure of the software was already at a peak stage and according to them, if the changes had to be impl emented at that stage of development, the project would definitely miss the deadline of the first release. The situation was critical, as both the teams were correct according to their point of view. In order to curb the conflict it was necessary for me to find a solution that would satisfy both the teams. Employee satisfaction is necessary to get the maximum output in work. The creativity of the employees hugely reflects in a perfect work and hence it was necessary for me to look into the employees satisfaction while acknowledging the issue. However, it was my responsibility as a project manager, to ascertain that my project release does not miss its deadline. It was indeed a critical situation, which could have been avoided, if the issue or the conflict was identified in its initial phase. Action Plan In order to manage the conflict, I at first made both the teams talk about their concerns with me and with each other. Then I briefed them the pros and cons of the issue and its effect in the overall performance of the team (O'Neill, Allen and Hastings 2013). I scheduled individual meetings with the team members to understand their perspective. I tried to bridge the communication gap between the teams and make them understand the aim of the project, which is a common goal for all the team members. The major challenge was the decision making process keeping in mind the risk associated with the decision. The major concern was not to miss the deadline of the release. Hence, I urged both the teams for co-operation. This way I could lessen the impact of the conflict. The team members were now ready to keep their ego aside and focus on the team. Both the teams were called for a meeting to reach a common settlement. Both the team leaders were asked to put forward their views and suggestion and the issue that were concerning them. The issue and the suggestions of both the team leaders were taken into consideration. I asked them to find a solution themselves. This made them talk about the issues with each other and thus I was successful in bridging the communication gap between the two teams, which was majorly responsible for the situation of a conflict. Finally, it was the time for decision-making (Pettigrew 2014). It is evaluated that the changes that were suggested by the designing team consisted of some major and minor changes. Major changes were not possible to implement because of the time crisis. However, the minor changes suggested by the designing team were possible to incorporate in the design. I found out that the major changes that were suggested by the designing team could be avoided in the first sprint release and could be incorporated in the next release (Staron, Meding and Palm 2012). Thus the decision of the excluding the major changes in the designing and developing of the software proved to be correct. The development team had no issue in implementing the minor changes, as they would not have to modify the whole coding. The developing team also agreed to implement the major changes that were suggested by the designing team, in the next release. The designing team was satisfied with the decision, as their suggestion was not scrapped out. The designing team was also suggested to do a thorough research of customers feedback after the first release and the required changes are reported well in advance so that the developing team does face any difficulty in implementing them. Conclusion Therefore, from the above discussion, it can be concluded that conflict is common in every organization. Conflict among the team members generally occurs due to difference in views and perception among the team-members. The project discussed was of a development of particular software following the agile methodology. The conflict aroused due to the differences in opinion of designing and developing team. Team conflicts hamper the performance of team members and affect the overall project. Conflict generally has damaging effects on team. Moreover, conflict results in poor co-ordination among the team-members in interdependent task. It reduces the cohesion among the team and its members and affects their ability to work as a team in achieving the goal. Therefore, managing a team conflict is very necessary. A project managers responsibility is to properly plan, initiate and execute a project. Therefore, if any conflict arises, project manager should step in, to resolve it. The methods, employed in resolving the above-discussed conflict is suitable for the cause. However, it is responsibility of the project manager to ensure that no conflict arises in the course of action for developing a product successfully. Conflict may result is a huge loss for the organization and thus it is recommended to be avoided. Changes that could be implemented to avoid this type of conflict in future are to ascertain that cohesion among the team and its members are not lost due to the communication gap or differences in opinion, and even if there is a difference among opinion, it is solved as soon as possible.
